“How much is fumigation in Nairobi?” is the first question almost everyone asks, and the honest answer is that no one can tell you over the phone without knowing a few things first. Any company that quotes you a firm price before seeing the space is either guessing or planning to revise it once they arrive.
Here is what actually moves the price, so you can judge whether a quote you have been given is reasonable.
1. Which pest you are dealing with
This is the biggest single factor. Different pests need different chemicals, different equipment and different amounts of time.
- Cockroaches are usually a single treatment with gel bait and a residual spray, plus a review.
- Bed bugs always need two visits, because eggs survive the first treatment. Anyone quoting a one-visit bed bug job has not understood the problem.
- Mosquitoes may need indoor spraying, outdoor fogging, or both.
- Rodents involve proofing entry points as well as baiting, and proofing is what takes the time.
2. The size of the space
A one-bedroom flat and a five-bedroom house in Runda are not the same job. Pricing usually follows the number of rooms being treated rather than the total floor area, because a treatment is applied room by room.
For commercial premises it is usually square metres, plus any complications like a kitchen that has to stay food-safe.
3. How bad it has got
A problem caught early is cheaper than one that has been building for six months. A heavy cockroach infestation needs more bait and more follow-up. A bed bug problem that has spread from the bedroom to the sitting room sofa has doubled in scope.
This is the part most people control without realising it. Calling in the first week costs less than calling in the third month.
4. Whether follow-up is included
Watch this one carefully when comparing quotes. A low price that covers one visit is not cheaper than a higher price covering two, if your pest needs two.
Ask directly: is the follow-up visit included in this price, or charged separately? With bed bugs and cockroaches, if the answer is “separately”, the quote is not what it appears to be.
5. Access and preparation
If our team has to move furniture, empty cupboards or wait for you to strip beds, that is time on site. Doing the preparation yourself before we arrive keeps the job shorter. We send a preparation list with every booking for exactly this reason.
6. Location
Within Nairobi this makes very little difference. For jobs in the outer towns, or anywhere that involves a long drive with equipment, travel may be reflected in the quote.
Questions worth asking any fumigation company
- What product are you using, and can I have the name in writing?
- How long do we need to stay out of the house?
- Is a follow-up visit included?
- What happens if the pests come back within a month?
- Is it safe around children, pets and fish?
A company that answers all five clearly is usually a company that will do the job properly. A company that will not put the product name in writing is a company to avoid.
Why the cheapest quote is often the most expensive
The most common thing we hear from new customers is that they already paid someone else. A single spray with no follow-up clears the visible adults, the eggs hatch two weeks later, and the problem is back. Now you are paying twice, and the infestation has had a fortnight to spread.
Judge a quote on scope, not on the number at the bottom.
