Search “pest control companies in Kenya” or “best fumigation company” and you will get pages of results: directory listings, paid adverts and articles ranking companies that, in most cases, nobody independently checked. Some of those lists are useful. Many are built from who paid for a listing, not who does good work. This guide skips the rankings and gives you the questions and checks to judge any pest control company yourself, including us.

What a legitimate pest control company does

  • Inspects before quoting. A price given over the phone with no questions about the pest, the property or how established the problem is, is a guess.
  • Names the product. A technician who can tell you what they are using and why, not just “strong chemical”, is working to a plan rather than guessing.
  • Gives a re-entry time in writing. You should know, before treatment starts, how long to stay out and what to do when you return.
  • Builds in the follow-up visit the pest needs. Bed bugs and most cockroach infestations need a second visit for eggs that hatch after the first treatment. If a quote does not mention this, ask why.
  • Is honest about what it does not do. A company that offers to fumigate anything, from a house to a shipping container to termite damage, without distinguishing between them, is worth a second look. Different pests and different jobs genuinely need different expertise.

Is the company registered to handle pest control products?

In Kenya, pest control products are registered with the Pest Control Products Board (PCPB), and operators using them commercially are expected to be licensed. You are not expected to audit a company's paperwork on the doorstep, but it is reasonable to ask which products they use and whether they are PCPB-registered for the purpose. A company that answers plainly is a better sign than one that is vague about what is in the spray.

Questions to ask before booking

Question What a good answer sounds like
Will you inspect or ask for photos before pricing? Yes, before naming a firm price
What product will you use, and is it registered for this use? A specific product name, not just “fumigation chemical”
How long do we need to stay out afterwards? A specific time, confirmed before the visit
Is a follow-up visit included? Yes, for pests that need one, as part of the quoted price
What happens if the pest comes back shortly after? A clear, specific answer, not a vague promise
Can you provide written confirmation of treatment? Yes, stating the address, date, pest and method

Red flags

  • A price with no questions asked. Especially for bed bugs, where severity varies enormously.
  • “Guaranteed permanent results.” No honest company can promise pests will never return from outside the treated property.
  • No product named, or a reluctance to say what will be used.
  • One-visit bed bug treatment. Bed bug eggs survive a single pass; a legitimate quote accounts for this.
  • Pressure to decide immediately, or a large deposit demanded before any inspection.
  • No fixed business address or verifiable contact details beyond a single phone number.

How to read “best” and “top 10” lists honestly

Most “best pest control companies in Kenya” or “top 10 fumigation companies” pages you find online are directory listings or blog posts built for search traffic, not independent audits of service quality. That does not make them useless as a starting point, but treat the ranking itself with caution and use the questions above on whichever company you are actually considering, rather than assuming position on a list means anything about quality.

The same applies to reviews. A handful of five-star ratings with no detail tells you less than one specific review that describes what was done, what pest it was, and whether the problem actually went away.

Comparing quotes fairly

Once you have two or three quotes, line them up and check that they cover the same ground:

  1. Do they include an inspection, or are they guessing from a description over the phone?
  2. Do they include the follow-up visit the pest needs, or is that an extra?
  3. Is the product named in both?
  4. Is proofing or prevention advice included, or just the spray?

Our pricing guide explains the factors that make one quote more expensive than another, and why the cheapest is not always the better deal.

Frequently asked questions

Do pest control companies need a licence in Kenya?

Pest control products are registered with the PCPB, and commercial operators are expected to be licensed to apply them. Asking a company which products they use and whether they are registered is a reasonable, specific question to put to them directly.

Is a “top 10” list on Google reliable?

Treat it as a starting list of names, not a verified ranking. Use the questions in this guide on whichever company you are actually considering.

What happens if I choose the cheapest quote and it does not work?

Often you end up paying twice: once for the cheap treatment that only killed what was visible, and again for a proper treatment once the problem returns. Compare what each quote actually includes, not just the total figure.

Can I ask to see the product label before treatment?

Yes. A company confident in what it is using should have no issue showing you the product it brings on site.
